Kids and Youth at Old First
Jesus said to them, “Whoever welcomes this child in my name welcomes me and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me; for the least among all of you is the greatest.” (Luke 9:48)
Sunday morning church school - During the school year, the children's education program takes place at 10:30 a.m. in the Children's Room adjacent to the Fellowship Hall. There the children take offering, share communion, learn and sing songs, and hear the Bible story told in an exciting way by a master story-teller. At 11:00, they join worship in the sanctuary in a processional with banners. Children attend the first part of worship and hear scripture read in worship. After the Children's Sermon, they go downstairs to gather with all ages of children in the activities area of the Fellowship Hall. According to age and ability, children choose different activities, including discussion, crafts, play time, art and drawing, dance and other activities, all related to the themes of the story and led by our volunteer teachers.
Children and the Lord's Supper - Presbyterians welcome children at the Lord's Table, and Old First encourages their participation. Once a month, they take communion with the gathered worship community, and once each month they learn about the Eucharist as they share in communion together in their church school program.
Special programs - These include a delightful, informal Christmas pageant and a Holy week drama. We learn and practice songs, readings, drama, and dance. We then share our talents and experiences with the whole congregation.
Youth programs - Junior and senior high youth are involved in service projects and occasional fellowship events.
